One of my all-time favorite movies is Groundhog Day. Who can forget Bill Murray being startled awake to the song “I’ve Got You Babe” and reliving the same day again and again. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to keep repeating a day until you get it right?
Anyway, coming to the real Groundhog Day, it is a customary American festival and takes place on Feb 2nd. It is basically about forecasting the weather- the groundhog’s behavior determines what kind of weather will be ahead.
We have all heard about the famous Punxsutawney Phil. At sunrise, Phil will emerge from his burrow at Gobbler’s Knob. At that point his handlers will announce whether or not Phil has seen his shadow. If he sees his shadow and returns back, it means that winter is here to stay for 6 more weeks. But in case he does not see his shadow, he will not be scared and winter will soon end.
So once again it’s almost time for another Groundhog Day. I wonder if winter will be hanging around for 6 more weeks or give way to a little warm weather. I don’t know about you but after these last few weeks I am hoping Phil sees no shadow!
